Last week I took a kitesurfing course at Windriders’ again. It was my second course there. I took a course for complete beginners a couple of years ago, yet since I did not kite ever since, I decided to take another course for intermediates, since I do want to continue kitesurfing! This course I learned how to ride upwind and to ride a small board instead of the bigger ones for beginners. The first three morning sessions there was no wind so we went wake boarding instead, which was very useful for muscle development and getting the feeling of riding a board. We also practised self-rescue that one needs in case of no wind or emergency while kitesurfing. Both the owner, Maayke, and the instructors working at the school are very professional teachers and kitesurfers and know very well how to explain things and instruct you on the water. In short, it was great fun to be back again and this time I bought Windriders’ equipment to kitesurf at home as well!
Visited Wind Riders in August, review by Francesco:
Last summer I spent a week camping with a few friends in Limone sul Garda. We had found Windriders on Internet and we decided to book a 5-days course. It was the first time for all of us and we were really excited about kitesurfing.
Windriders team was awesome…they were very competent and patient in teaching us the basics kitesurfing skills. Although we had different learning abilities in the different skills (someone was more natural for flying the kite and handling the board, someone else -like me- a bit less), everyone always felt was improving and never left behind.
The equipment needed for the course (lifejackets, wetsuits, helmet, etc) was in good condition and they had different sizes of kites and board so they are adaptable to your skills and to different wind conditions.
The location is great. First reason for the wind: in summer almost every day you have a quite strong wind blowing from north in the morning and a light wind from south in the afternoon and that’s due to the mountains and the thermal effect. Second reason: every teacher has a motorboat, so you can start every time from the water in the best wind spot of the lake for that day.
I recommend everyone who want to challenge himself with kitesurfing (an amazing sport!) to go to Limone sul Garda for a few days and meet the Windriders team!
As absolute beginners we took 4 lessons what was just enough to give us a good introduction to Kite Surfing and test our appetite for more. The lessons where OK, but could be better for absolute beginners as ourselves. We picked Windriders for their website promise that they have Dutch speaking instructors, although this is true, the groups are mixed nationality. Boats and kites are all in good shape and quality. The one-direction radio helmets are great to have and work well.
