Why take the IKO Assistant course? 

The IKO was founded in 2001 and has its headquarters in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. They have representation in 38 countries around the world! The IKO is the world’s leading kiteboarding organization, specializing in educational programs, the promotion of safe kiteboarding practices, and the enhancement of industry standards. The IKO strives to reach excellence in its students’ learning experiences, while finding the perfect balance of fun and safety for all IKO Members.

More than 12000 instructors have been trained thanks to the IKO and over 600,000 kiters have been taught using our guidelines and courses.

Taking the IKO Assistant course will provide you with a great start to work at a IKO kitesurf school! If you do not fancy working as an assistant you can shortly after take the instructor course. Or just do this course for fun and learn more about kitesurfing in general. 

Maayke Andersen has trained over 50 assistants in the languages: English, German, Dutch and Italian

Lake Garda is a great place for doing kitesurf course because of the reliable winds 🙂

To take part at the course An Assistant Instructor Candidate must: 

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have a riding level equivalent to IKO Kiteboarder Level 4 – Advanced*
  • Have an IKO account ‘Kiter Free’
  • Be fluent (reading, writing, speaking and general understanding) in the language thatthe course is given

* You can record a video of you demonstrating the required skills before the course, in case there is not enough wind to do the riding test. Your Assistant Trainer will use it to check your level.
